Indonesia Sharia Police forbid women from wearing pants in public

Aceh enforces women trouser ban

Police in Indonesian province forbid women from wearing tight pants in public.

Tight trousers are off limits to women in West Aceh, Indonesia.

The Sharia police stop women who break the dress code, forcing them to wear a long skirt handed out by the government.

The policy is supposed to enforce Sharia law in Aceh, but critics say it distracts attention from economic problems in the region.

Al Jazeera's Step Vaessen reports from Meulaboh in Aceh province.
